Property Lawyer - Commercial Team, Brighton & Hove City Council

About the role

Are you an able, motivated lawyer who is interested in property work? Come and join our award-winning Legal Services team by the sea!

You will have a real impact by helping the Council provide affordable housing through its buy back scheme and by maximising the Council’s income from its significant commercial property portfolio. Our Team has worked on many exciting projects recently such as the Sea Lanes Outdoor Swimming Pool, the city’s Kingsway to the Sea redevelopment and the acquisition of a block of 38 new build apartments.

We are looking to recruit a qualified lawyer with relevant residential conveyancing and commercial / development experience to support this area of work, working as part of a supportive and dynamic property legal team.  Public sector work experience is ideal but not necessary.

We can offer you a comprehensive benefits package including flexible working arrangements, a local government pension, minimum 26 days annual leave (plus bank holidays) and employee discount benefits. In line with the Council’s corporate policy, we operate hybrid working arrangements with 60% of the time based in the office at Hove Town Hall (or other Council premises) and the option of 40% of your working week from home.

We take diversity and inclusivity seriously and are looking to build a service which reflects the community which we represent. We are committed to attracting, retaining and developing our employees. We encourage applications from all suitably qualified candidates.

Please contact Hannah Bassett, Senior Property Lawyer, (hannah.bassett@brighton-hove.gov.uk) if you would like to discuss the role.
