All admitted solicitors practising or residing in the Geographical County of Sussex are eligible as members of the Society. Trainee Solicitors employed in Sussex are eligible for Associate Membership.

The Sussex Law Society is independent of other Local Law Societies and of the solicitors’ controlling bodies, the Law Society and the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority (SRA).

Members include employed solicitors, sole practitioners, firms specialising in particular areas of law, firms carrying on general practice, substantial regional firms, & firms with international connections.

As a result, the range and breadth of expertise of its members for both the private and business client is extensive.

Membership Types

Individual Membership

The Sussex Law Society is independent of other Local Law Societies and of the solicitors’ controlling bodies, the Law Society and the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority (SRA).

Corporate Membership

The Society offers this type of membership to legal practices and in-house legal departments in organisations.

It is a more cost effective way of offering membership to all qualified solicitors covered by one annual fee based on the number of qualified solicitors in the firm or qualified solicitors in the legal department. Information on the Fee scale can be found on the Membership Rates information tab below.

In addition, Corporate Membership allows all staff employed by the Corporate Member firm or organisation to attend Society courses and events at the preferential rate.

Opportunities for communication with fellow members, other local professionals, the local Bar and Judiciary.
Corporate Members – free descriptive listing for your firm/organisation plus your logo and a link to your website on the Members Page of this website.
Individual Members – free listing of your name, firm and area of law plus an email link on the Members Page of this website.
Opportunity to be part of the ‘Lost & Missing Wills’ scheme.

How to Join

The Society’s principal objects include:

The protection of the character, status, rights and interests of its members and of the profession of solicitors generally.
The promotion of honorable practice among solicitors.
The consideration of questions affecting the profession at large, or the alteration or administration of the law, and
The promotion of legal education.
